I chose to show my Learning Activity #6 and QQC #5 to reflect my development of a particular writing or communicative skill that was focused on in this class.  Both focus on Rhetorical Analysis which was the focus of Project 2

Artifact #1
Learning Activity #6

In this learning activity, the class got separated into four groups.  The first two had to rhetorically analyze a National Geographic text for adults.  Then the next two groups had to rhetorically analyze a National Geographic text for Kids.  Each group had to jot down what they found in the chart provided.

I was in group #2, so I had to analyze the adult text.  We had to find the genre, writer, audience, purpose, exigence, and constraints.  My groups findings are shown in the chart to the left.

Participating in this Learning Activity allowed me to apply what I learned so far and to practice on a real life example.  I had to critically think with my group and we had to come up with the best answers.  This activity cleared up how to properly analyze these components and understand what they look like in a text.  This then aided me in composing my project 2, as I now knew how to rhetorically analyze a genre.

Artifact #2
QQC #5

A "QQC" stands for quote, question, and comment.  We were assigned a text to read and annotate.  As we read, we highlight a sentence that we want to quote, we have a question about, or finding another classmates annotation to comment on.  This particular text was titled "Backpacks vs. Briefcases: Steps toward Rhetorical Analysis" by Laura Bolin Carroll

While I was reading through the text, I found certain information that stood out to me.  You can see what I've highlighted and then annotated to the right, followed by a comment I left on one of my classmates annotations.

By annotating this text, I learned about how to properly rhetorically analyze a text.  Carroll provided real life examples and senerios to help the concept make more sense.  She also provided great defintitons that cleared up some of my confusions.  Overall, this text assisted me greatly in constructing my project 2.
